About me
Every story begins with a spark—an idea that lingers, grows, and refuses to be ignored. For me, that spark ignited a lifelong love of storytelling. Writing as Lucinda Wray, I bring a personal, attentive, and detail-driven approach to every page I create. Crafting fiction isn’t just a passion; it’s a discipline rooted in my fascination with language, structure, and the subtle art of drawing readers into a world that feels unmistakably real.
My work is character-led and deeply atmospheric, set within the fictional village of Maiden Meade—a place shaped as much by its people as its rolling landscapes and quiet corners. English village life has always captivated me: the rhythm of its days, the weight of its traditions, and the sense that behind every cottage window lies a story waiting to be told. Beneath its calm surface, Maiden Meade holds secrets, tensions, rivalries, and unexpected depths. Exploring those hidden layers—and the intricate lives of the people who inhabit them—is at the heart of my writing.
Through every novel, I strive to create immersive experiences that draw readers closer to the mystery, the emotion, and the humanity that bind a community together. My commitment is simple: to deliver stories crafted with care, authenticity, and a relentless pursuit of excellence.
Welcome to Maiden Meade. I’m delighted to share its secrets with you.
My Inspiration
My passion for writing stems from a lifelong fascination with the creative process—shaping storylines, breathing life into characters, and constructing worlds that feel vivid, textured, and real. For me, storytelling is both an escape and an exploration: a place where imagination, emotion, and observation meet.
I am drawn to the rhythm of words and the architecture of a well-built narrative, where every detail matters and every sentence serves a purpose. Crafting plots, refining structure, and discovering the hidden depths of my characters is the part of the process I cherish most.
This love for language, storytelling, and immersive escapism is what fuels my work and shapes the voice of my books. It’s what allows me to create stories that feel alive—rich in atmosphere, rooted in character, and touched with the quiet complexities of human nature.
Ultimately, I write to offer readers a doorway into another world, where they can lose themselves for a while and emerge with something meaningful to carry away.
Unique Perspective
Having travelled extensively, I’ve had the privilege of observing people and places in all their variety—small gestures, unspoken emotions, cultural nuances, and the quiet complexities that shape who we are. These experiences have deepened my fascination with human nature and the intricacies of the individual psyche.
Understanding what motivates people—what they fear, desire, hide, and reveal—has become central to the way I write. It helps me craft characters who feel authentic, layered, and emotionally true, each carrying their own history, secrets, and contradictions.
This perspective enriches my storytelling, allowing me to create narratives that resonate with readers on a deeper level. Whether in moments of tension, tenderness, or quiet reflection, I draw upon the diverse worlds and lives I’ve encountered, bringing a sense of realism and humanity to every page.
Hobbies and Interests
When I’m not immersed in the world of Maiden Meade or shaping new scenes on the page, I find joy in academic study. I am currently pursuing my BA in English Language and Creative Writing, a journey that continually challenges and inspires me to refine my craft. Engaging with literature from an academic perspective deepens my appreciation for narrative, language, and the art of storytelling.
Outside of writing and study, I love cooking—experimenting in the kitchen is its own kind of creativity—and I’m an avid reader of fiction. Poetry is another passion of mine; it allows me to explore emotion and imagery in a different, more distilled form.
Above all, my beautiful grandchildren, Ava and Zahra, bring me tremendous joy. Seeing the world through their eyes—curious, imaginative, and full of wonder—reminds me why storytelling matters. Their presence adds a lightness and warmth to my life that often finds its way into my writing.
These interests and experiences, varied as they are, enrich my world and subtly shape my work, adding layers of depth, humanity, and reflection to the stories I tell.
Meeting Vivien Grey
If I could meet just one of my characters in real life, it would undoubtedly be Vivien Grey, Maiden Meade’s enigmatic local white witch. Vivien fascinates me—her intuition, her eccentricities, and her quiet wisdom make her the kind of person you can’t help but be drawn to.
I imagine the two of us sharing a bottle of wine at her kitchen table, the candlelight flickering as we talk late into the night. We would wander through conversations about spirituality, folklore, and the unseen forces that shape our lives, slipping from laughter to profundity with ease. Vivien has a way of blending the mystical with the deeply human, and I suspect our discussion would leave me feeling both grounded and uplifted.
In many ways, she embodies the essence of Maiden Meade itself: mysterious, warm, unpredictable, and full of hidden depths. Meeting her would be like stepping into the heart of my own imagination.
